Property tax is paid to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD); NDMC and the Delhi Cantonment Board cover their own areas. Many DDA flats are leasehold, and conversion to freehold is worth checking before a sale.

Renting out a property in Delhi

The Delhi Rent Control Act, 1958 does not cover premises let at more than ₹3,500 a month, so most modern lets run on the written agreement. Delhi Police requires tenant verification, which can be done online.

Rent paid to an NRI owner carries TDS (30% plus surcharge and cess, no threshold, under section 393(2) of the Income-tax Act, 2025 from FY 2026-27); the tenant needs a TAN.
